In this acoustic guitar lesson we are going to look a little closer at how you should organize your practice routine.
30 Minutes a day is the minimum amount of time you would need for your practice time and you also need to divide it into suitable sections to make the most of your time. Have you ever heard the saying: “If you fail to plan you plan to fail” This is so true when it comes to practicing guitar and actually want to see results. I like to mess around on the guitar just like everybody else but I also understand that if I always play the same thing then I’m not going to grow as a musician.
We are all different and you might want to make a few changes but the basic strategy is the same. Focus on the foundations every day.
1. The first 5 minutes is devoted to chords. Don’t learn all the chords at once. Instead start with 2 or 3 and make sure you get the changes right.
2. Five minutes is rhythm time. Start with a few rhythms and make sure you can play them properly and relaxed. Play along to a drum machine if possible.
3. Spend 10 minutes is song time. Start using the chords and rhythms you’ve learned to play some tunes. Go for easy ones at first.
4. Scales and Chromatic exercises are extremely help to facilitate your left and right hand coordination. Remember to go slow and master the movements.
5. Ear Training is our second last stop. It’s absolutely important that you develop your listening skills and you need to start with some basic chord identification. Try and tell the difference between Major and Minor chords and then introduce dominant 7 chords. These 3 chord types account for 80% of all music we listen to.
6. Now that you’ve worked hard and been very focused you can reward yourself by playing whatever it is you like! Make it count and end your practice timewith something that will make you feel good!
That’s it for this acoustic guitar lesson! You’re done and ready to do it all again tomorrow. Just remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day and rest assured that if you keep practicing you will become a truly proficient guitarist.
