I just came across one of the most amazing guitar solo videos on YouTube that I’ve ever seen. But there’s a HUGE potential problem with it that I need you to know about.

Okay, here’s the story.

This guy’s unique take on one of the most well-known pieces of music of all time is certainly unique. It’s fun to watch, and it’s amazing to listen to what he can do. In fact, it’ll probably inspire you to pick up your guitar and resolve to practice all day every day until you can play just like him. It has had over 42 MILLION views on YouTube, making it what I think is THE most watched guitar video ever on the Internet (I may be wrong about that, but if it’s not #1, it’s close).

Now, I want you to watch the video so you can see what I’m talking about. But then you have to read my explanation about why I think this is also one of the more controversial videos out there for anyone who’s trying to learn how to play the guitar.

Okay, Great - So Why the Controversy?

Here’s the deal about this video. The guy who’s playing that amazing solo is promoting a “how to play guitar product” called MusicMasterPro. Since I always like to tell my readers about quality products they might like to check out, of course I went looking for a little research to see how this one stacks up.

Now, I have to be right upfront here and say that I have NOT personally tried this product, so I’m NOT speaking from first-hand experience. But what I did read about it on other blogs left me kind of disappointed. I couldn’t really find any positive reviews that didn’t sound fishy. Most of the people who’ve tried it and reviewed it basically said that it didn’t offer enough quality instruction for the money. Again, I can’t say whether it’s a good product or bad product for sure myself because I haven’t tried it.

But what I can say is that there are plenty of other products out there with great reputations that you can be totally comfortable buying because they have a proven track record of satisfying their customers. That’s why I thought it was such a shame when I read that a number of people had purchased this one and been disappointed with it. Something like that is often enough reason for someone who’s just starting out to scrap the whole thing. And that’s a shame. A guitar is such a rewarding instrument once you get proper instruction. When you don’t, you probably just think it’s too hard, that you’ll never learn it, and you just give up. That’s too bad.

There are two courses that I highly recommend — one is, of course, Jamorama (click on the link to check it out), which is just about the best value you can find anywhere for your money. The other course, which is a bit more comprehensive and comes with some physical DVDs, CD-ROMs and a printed manual, is Dan Denley’s Amazing Guitar Secrets (again, click on the link to check it out). Note: I just received a copy of Dan’s course in the mail, and I’m going to spend a few days going through it and then post a review over on my online guitar lessons review page. So stay tuned for that.

So I’ll wrap it up here. Just wanted to let you guys know about this in case you were in the market for guitar tutorials and needed some opinions.
